A Good Frock’s mission is to bring you a small, carefully curated selection of new, preloved and vintage luxury dresses. The dresses are always authentic, carefully sourced from the UK and abroad. I try to buy with an eye to what I might wear. Other dresses I buy because they are a classic shape or offer something genuinely different. Of course, one of the first pieces of advice I was given when I was thinking of starting A Good Frock was not to fall in love with the merch. To date, I have been good and no dress, thus far, has made its way to my own wardrobe!
New dresses are generally New With Tags unless otherwise stated. Many are not current season. Nevertheless, they are still in their original unworn condition. Some have been on the inventory of retailers, occasionally they have been at the back of someone’s wardrobe. They are Mint unless otherwise stated.
Preloved dresses have been worn and loved by their previous owner. Any signs of wear or flaws will be detailed in the individual listing. These dresses tend to be ‘lightly worn’. For the savvy shopper Preloved dresses present big savings compared to new frocks and of course they are typically not current season. Designers like Dolce and Gabbana often raid their archive so it can be hard to date their dresses.
My luxury vintage are dresses typically predate 2010. Every retailer seems to have a view on what the cut-off point should be. As Dolce and Gabbana dresses have only been in production since the 1980s to my mind 2010 is as good as any date.
Any flaws or imperfections (rare) are clearly described in the individual listing. For example, I can think off the top of my head of two dresses that do not have their optional straps.
