Dolce and Gabbana cocktail dresses offer you a wide range of choices. Your final selection might be based on the time of day of your event, the occasion and the venue. Even the time of year. But just in case you were not aware there are certainly guidelines which should help you make your selection. But picking an Italian designer for a cocktail dress means you are in safe hands. I will explain.

What Makes the Perfect Cocktail Dress?

In many ways the perfect cocktail dress is a hybrid. It’s neither a day dress or an evening dress. Short dresses are out as are maxi dresses. For years the perfect length was said to be just above the knee. But nowadays you can get away with something a bit longer – a midi dress is in some ways ideal but of course you’ll want to pick a dress appropriate for the occasion. This is just another example of an occasion where the choice for men is so much easier. Dolce and Gabbana excel at creating stylish dresses in luxury fabrics so are a good choice if you are looking for a dress to wear for an event where cocktail attire is called for.

Along with the length of the dress the other consideration is neckline. The kind of plunging neckline you might get away with for clubbing would not be appropriate in a cocktail dress. A cocktail dress is simply not an out and out evening dress. It might be a dress that could take you from daytime to evening depending on the occasion. It can be one of the most versatile dresses you have in your wardrobe.

Black Cocktail Dresses

Just a word on colour. It’s important. Much is made of black cocktail dresses, but you most definitely do not have to choose black. To my way of thinking it’s always better to stand out in a crowd so why go for the safe option? Of course, you can if you want to but don’t discount colour or pattern. Dolce and Gabbana certainly don’t. To my way of thinking a black cocktail dress has more of an evening vibe – which in truth might suit your occasion better. But I would trade that for colour or pattern for most events. The choice is yours.
